Four nations earned gold in the four finals contested in the second day of the Alexandroupolis’ leg of FINA Artistic Swimming World Series, taking place in Greece from April 5-7. Canada, Italy, Japan and Ukraine were the best countries of the day, while Greece, Israel and Russia also had their best representatives on the podium.
In the Solo Free final, Marta Fiedina (UKR) was the strongest of the field, completing her successful routine in 92.7000. More experienced Linda Cerruti, from Italy, also had a pleasant presentation, but had to content with silver (90.1667). The bronze went to Jacqueline Simoneau (CAN), who totalled 90.000 points.
Simoneau was again in action in the Team Free competition, decisively helping her country to earn gold in 88.8000. Despite the huge support from the crowd, Greece could not do better and got silver in 87.0333. Israel completed the podium, getting 83.7000 for its programme.
In the mixed duet competition, Japan and Italy shared the honours. In the Technical routine, the Japanese pair Atsushi Abe/Yumi Adachi won gold in 85.4462, in a final only contested by another duet, Russians Kristina Averina/Mikhail Vasilev (81.8957). In the Free version, Manila Flamini/Giorgio Minisini, from Italy, confirmed their credentials and comfortably won gold in 90.1000. Abe/Adachi were this time silver medallists in 87.5333, followed by the Russian pair Averina/Vasilev (bronze in 85.1000).
The third and last day of the second leg of the World Series’ season will conclude this Sunday in Alexandroupolis, with the last three finals on the programme: Duet Free, Highlight Routine and Free Combination.
