The governance of aquatic sports took recent key steps forward by extending its partnership with the International Testing Agency (ITA) until the end of 2023 and with the Aquatics Integrity Unit (AQIU) beginning its operations on 1 January 2023.

Ensuring a level playing field and athletes competing clean in aquatic sports is an organisational mission captured in the words of World Aquatics President Husain Al-Musallam:

“We are helping to further ensure a level playing field, safeguarding athletes’ health and removing any and all forms of misconduct within sports.”

Every piece of information helps in the fight for clean sport. Your information can help uncover doping and catch cheaters. Through World Aquatics’ partnership with the ITA, the aquatics community has access to the REVEAL platform. Where Can I Confidentially Report Safe Sport, Competition Manipulation and Ethical Violations?

The Aquatics Integrity Unit is committed to protecting all aquatics participants from any offensive, violent or disrespectful behaviour. If you’ve seen, heard or experienced something that goes against the principles of Safe Sport, Competition Fair Play or Sporting Ethics, the independent Aquatics Integrity Unit has a confidential reporting platform.

What is a Registered Testing Pool?

A Registered Testing Pool is the highest tier group of national and international level athletes established by an International Federation for a particular sport and/or a National Anti-Doping Organisations to enable no advance notice testing. Athletes are selected for the Registered Testing Pool based on various criteria detailed in the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) International Standard for Testing & Investigation.

What is a Testing Pool?

The tier below the Registered Testing Pool is the Testing Pool. This is a secondary grouping of athletes established by International Federations and/or a National Anti-Doping Organisation.

WHEREABOUTS

To enable the ITA and other Anti-Doping Organisations to locate athletes for out-of-competition testing, athletes must submit accurate and up-to-date information about where they are (and will be!) at all times.

Why Am I Required to Submit Whereabouts?

Out-of-Competition testing is essential for protecting the integrity of your sport, and works to detect and deter athletes from doping. It is vital that athletes keep their whereabouts information up-to-date so that anti-doping organisations can locate athletes for testing at any place, at any time, with no advance notice.

What Could Happen to Me if I Fail to Submit My Whereabouts Information?

There are several consequences if you do not provide accurate whereabouts. This includes submitting whereabouts after the quarterly deadline and not being present at the location indicated without a valid reason.

Filing Failure – If you are an athlete in the Testing Pool or Registered Testing Pool and submits late, inaccurate or incomplete whereabouts that lead to you being unavailable for testing, you may receive a Filing Failure.

Missed Test (Registered Testing Pool only) –If you are an athlete in the Registered Testing Pool who is not available for testing during a 60-minute time slot, you may also receive a Missed Test.

Any combination of three Whereabouts failures (Filing Failure and/or Missed Test) within a 12-month period may constitute an Anti-Doping Rule Violation and a potential two-year ban from sport.

What Should I Do if I Don’t Have Internet Access and Need to Update My Whereabouts Information?

If you don’t have access to the Anti-Doping Administration & Management System (ADAMS) and you urgently need to submit or update your whereabouts information, you have several possibilities:

- Send in a text message (SMS) with your whereabouts information. Here’s how you activate whereabout updates via SMS.

- Send an e-mail containing your whereabouts information to the ITA via the Contact Us

- Request a manual whereabouts form from the ITA via the Contact Us
