After nine exciting days, 35 Swimming finals (the most in Olympic history), 6 World and 33 Olympic Records, I would like to congratulate all the participating athletes, coaches, families and host city of Tokyo for the outstanding results achieved at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre in Tokyo (JPN).
Your commitment, devotion and love for Swimming was well demonstrated by the level of your performances and by the passionate way you competed in these Olympic Games.
Despite a very challenging time, you proved that with perseverance and strong will, we can overcome the current pandemic difficulties. You are an inspiration for generations to come and the images of Swimming during these Games will remain vivid for many years in our minds.
After speaking with many of you during this past week, it is clear for me that your love for swimming is unbeatable. You are the strength and the pride of our sport!
In the coming days, we will continue to cheer on and support the rest of our Aquatic athletes in Water Polo, Diving, Artistic, and Marathon Swimming. The excitement continues!
