Spain confirmed the first place in its European Group of the preliminaries of the 2009 FINA Women's Water Polo World League, by winning the last game of this phase against Italy (17-14) at the end of the three-day tournament in Madrid (ESP). In the other match of the day, France easily beat South Africa by 19-5. Both Spain and Italy has already assured their qualification for the Super Final of the competition. Following this three-day tournament in Madrid and the previous one of this group in Lille (FRA, May 8-10), the final ranking is as follows:
