Sweden's swimming ace Sarah Sjostrom has taken the early lead of the FINA/airweave Swiming World Cup 2017 after the first leg, held in Moscow (RUS) from August 2-3.

With three gold medals, as well as two new World Records in the 50m free and 100m free, Sjostrom accumulated 109 points, while last year's Swimming World Cup overall winner Katinka Hosszu (HUN) follows with 57 points. Hosszu also collected three gold medals in Moscow in the 100m back, 100m IM and the 200m IM.

Emily Seebohm of Australia is third, with a gold medal in the 50m back and ties in the ranking with Ranomi Kromowidjojo (NED), with both 36 points.

In the men's operations, Chad Le Clos (RSA), Kirill Prigoda (RSA) and Cameron Van der Burgh (RSA) all have 36 points after this first leg in Moscow.

Le Clos pocketed three golds, 200m free and 50m/ 100m fly, while teammate Van der Burgh was the best in the 100m breast. Pridoga took gold in the 200m breast.

Both mixed relay events were won by the Russian team in respectively 1:39.10 for the 4x50m medley and 1:31.39 in the 4x50m free.

The FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup 2017 resumes on Sunday August 6 in Berlin (GER) for the second leg of the circuit.
