Fukuoka is ready for the challenge in 2021!

Less than three years to go for the beginning of the competition, the 2021 organisers of the 19th FINA World Championships in Fukuoka (JPN) held today a special ceremony to officially announce the creation of an executive body in charge of staging the event. The President of the 2021 Fukuoka Organising Committee will be the President of the Japan Swimming Federation, Mr Tsuyoshi Aoki, while one of the OC Vice-Presidents will be the Mayor of Fukuoka, Mr Soichiro Takashima.

In today’s ceremony, attended by FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu, and by Bureau Member from Japan Daichi Suzuki, the concept and main timelines until the Championships were outlined. The local authorities expressed their satisfaction and enthusiasm for having once more the FINA family in their city.

In fact, this is the second time that the FINA showcase is held in Fukuoka, after a very successful edition in 2001. In three-years’ time, the aquatic show will be accompanied by the FINA World Masters Championships – the biggest FINA competition in terms of participation, and since 2015 organised in conjunction with the elite event.

Several top-Japanese swimmers were also present in today’s celebration: their all emphasised their wish for a successful Championship and they naturally express their confidence in outstanding performances during the competition. Around 2’500 athletes from the six FINA disciplines, and representing around 190 nations will be present in Fukuoka.

Before the 2021 rendezvous, the upcoming edition of the FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships will take place in Gwangju (KOR), in 2019. Doha, the capital of Qatar, will host the FINA showcase in 2023.
