FINA learnt with great sadness about the loss of Orban Mendoza, from Puerto Rico, who passed away on September 14, 2019 at the age of 90.

Mr Mendoza was a former FINA Bureau Member, having served our International Federation in this capacity from 2005 to 2013. Throughout his long and successful career, he has been President of the Puerto Rico Swimming Federation from 1976 to 1980, and then President of CCCAN (Central American and Caribbean Swimming Federation) and UANA (Union Americana de Natacion).

For his services to our Sport, he also received the FINA Gold Pin.

Mr Mendoza diligently worked for the progress of Aquatics in his own country, but also in all Central American region.

In this moment of grief, FINA sends its heartfelt condolences to Orban Mendoza’s family and friends, and to the entire Aquatics community in Puerto Rico.
