On 7 February 2019, the swimmer Nicolas Martin Caulela Magnani (URU) underwent an out-of-competition doping control test. The analysis performed on his sample indicated the presence of the Erythropoietin, EPO (Class S.2 Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors, Related Substances and Mimetics).

The Disciplinary Tribunal of the National Anti-Doping Organisation of Uruguay imposed a sanction of four (4) years’ ineligibility period on the athlete starting on 7 February 2019. This decision was confirmed in the appeal.
