Ukraine and Canada earned the three gold medals at stake in the first day of the second leg of the 2019 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series, taking place in Alexandroupolis (GRE), from April 5-7. The finals of this inaugural day included the Solo Technical, Duet Technical and Team Technical.

 

In the individual event, Jacqueline Simoneau, from Canada, was the best of the field, concluded her routine with a total of 87.8487 points. Born in 1996, the North American athlete was fiercely challenged by home hero Evangelia Platanioti, who presented also a solid and well-executed programme, getting the silver in 87.5534. The bronze medal went to Germany’s Marlene Bojer, in a “distant” 76.9753.

In the duet technical competition, Ukrainians Marta Fiedina and Anastasiya Savchuk impressed by their elegance and by the correctness of their presentation, winning gold in 91.4462. Despite also displaying an interesting routine, Italians Linda Cerruti and Costanza Ferro had to content with silver, in 88.6696. In third, Canadians Claudia Holzner and Simoneau collected 87.3405 for the bronze medal. 

The two successful Ukrainian swimmers were again in action in the winning Team Technical event, helping their national squad to comfortably win gold in 91.7261. Their strongest challengers were once more the Canadians, who concluded second (silver in 86.6664). To the satisfaction of the many Hellenic fans in the stands, the Greek team managed to get the bronze in 85.6633. 

The second day of competition in Alexandroupolis includes four finals: Solo Free, Team Free, Mixed Duet Technical and Mixed Duet Free.
