Chinese twin sisters Jiang Wenwen & Jiang Tingting celebrated their victory in the duets technical routine on the first day of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2018 Beijing, China, on Friday while Nada Daabousova won a gold for Slovakia.

Over the music of Flamengo, world runner-up Jiang Wenwen/Jiang Tingting showed their passion and skills, winning 90.5171 points for their routine. Anna-Maria Alexandri/Eirini Alexandri of Austria took the silvers in 84.7241 while Anita Alvarez/Ruby Remati from USA came third 81.7575.

"We did not perform our best and we did better during the training. We made a little technical mistake in one of the difficult turn," Wenwen said.

There are more twin sisters in the artistic swimming in China since the sucessss of Jiang sisters made in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

"We have four pair of twins in our national championships right now. We are glad that we led the trend of twins in artistic swimming and that the sport is now more popular in China. The more people like it and follow it, the better," Tingting added.

In the team technical routine, China showed one more time the beauty of Chinese traditional Peking Opera with modern elements and won the gold with 89.0903. USA finished second in 79.9018 and Slovakia took the bronze in 73.6496.

 

"It was the routine that got us the silver medal in Budapest Worlds last year, but we did some changes. We felt great to show the Peking Opera to the world,"Guo Li said.

Nada Daabousova earned Slovakia a gold medal with 78.1890 while Hua Wei Gan of Malaysia bagged the silver with 73.5892.

Beijing, is the second leg of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2018, the second edition of the newest FINA event that integrates recognised artistic swimming competitions around the globe and establishes an international ranking based on points accumulated over a ten-meet circuit.

 

The event takes place at the Yingdong Aquatic Center from Friday April 20 to Sunday April 22.
