China

China only missed the podium in this event in 2007, the first time it was held at the world aquatics championships. Since then, China finished third in 2009 and second in each of the last five editions between 2011 and 2019.

China has won 12 medals in duet events at the FINA World Championships, but has yet to win its first gold (G0-S10-B2).No other country has recorded more than five second places in duet events.

China only won as many medals in the women's duet free routine (G0-S5-B1) as in the women's duet technical routine (G0-S5-B1) in artistic swimming at the world aquatics championships.


Other contenders

The women's duet technical routine will have a first-time winner at the 19th FINA World  Championships in Budapest. Russia has won all seven previous editions.

Ukraine finished on the podium in this event at the last five editions of the world aquatics championships or European aquatics championships: third behind Russia and China at the world aquatics championships in 2017 and 2019 and second behind Russia at the European aquatics championships in 2016, 2018 and 2021.

Italy aims to win its first medal in the women's duet technical routine at the world aquatics championships. Italy won bronze at the European championships in 2016 and 2018.

Japan finished in the top-five in this event on all occasions it was held at the world aquatics championships, including bronze medals in 2007 and 2015.

Anna-Maria Alexandri (AUT) and Eirini-Marina Alexandri (AUT) won gold in this event at the 2022 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series Super Final in Athens and bronze at the 2020 European Aquatics Championships in Budapest. They could hand Austria its first medal in artistic swimming at the world aquatics championships.

Bregje de Brouwer (NED) and Marloes Steenbeek (NED) can hand Netherlands its first medal in artistic swimming at the world aquatics championships. They won silver in this event at the 2022 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series Super Final in Athens.
