The FINA Bureau approved the Qualification Procedure and Prize Money and Awards for the 19th FINA World Championships. FINA continues to work as quickly as possible with Budapest 2022 to provide information and certainty for athletes with regard to their preparation and training schedules.

“FINA is working constantly to provide all aquatics athletes with new opportunities to compete at the very highest level,” said FINA President Husain Al-Musallam. “I am very proud that FINA can provide athletes with a level of certainty for the season and the opportunity to compete at a major competition this summer. We are very grateful to Budapest for its flexibility and willingness to host this World Championships and I would like to once again thank them for their ongoing support.”

The Qualification Procedure for the 19th FINA World Championships Budapest 2022 will adopt the already established pathway for Fukuoka 2022, with an extended deadline of 15 May 2022. All FINA-approved qualifying events for Fukuoka 2022 are automatically considered as the qualifying events for the 19th FINA World Championships.

During the meeting, the FINA Bureau also approved the Prize Money and Awards, with an overall prize pool of USD 5,720,000 and a bonus of USD 50,000 for any new world record set in individual swimming events, the highest award amount ever for a FINA World Championships.

With the addition of Budapest 2022, FINA is very pleased to offer a comprehensive line-up of opportunities for aquatics athletes in all disciplines, in the lead up to and including the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
