The FINA Bureau and the FINA Swimming Technical Committee (TSC) confirmed the age eligibility for junior-aged swimmers in 2022.
- Girls: 14 – 17 years on 31 December 2022 (born 2008, 2007, 2006, & 2005)
- Boys: 15 – 18 years on 31 December 2022 (born 2007, 2006, 2005, & 2004)
The FINA TSC decision follows FINA By-Laws 9.3.6 on age eligibility of swimmers that stipulates female swimmers aged 14-17 and male swimmers aged 15-18, based on their age at the end of the year of competition, are eligible to compete.
The 8th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, set to take place from 23-28 August 2022 at the Palace of Water Sports in Kazan, Russia, will follow the confirmed age eligibility. Originally scheduled for August 2021 in Kazan, the event was postponed for one year due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
