Top-6 Tokyo 2020 finishers will also take the plunge on Saturday promising a spectacular show following the fresh Olympic Marathon Swimming memories, just three weeks ago.

In the women’s race, Hungary’s Anna Olasz, 4th in Tokyo, is definitely one to watch for, while last week’s UltraMarathon (25km) winner Oceane Cassignol of France will also aim for victory. Multiple overall 10km World Series winner (2015, 2017,2019) Rachele Bruni (ITA, 14th in Tokyo) and Lea Boy (GER) will also certainly lead the charge.

The men’s competition will see World champions Axel Reymond of France, winner of the UltraMarathon last week, and Hungary’s Kristof Rasovszky take a dip in the North Macedonian waters. Brazil’s veterans Allan Do Carmo and Diogo Villarinho are amongst the strongest contenders, together with Italy’s Matteo Furlan, Marcel Schouten (NED), Evgenij Pop Acev (MKD) and Marc-Antoine Olivier (FRA).

A total of 50 athletes (30 men and 20 women) have registered for the event. Ten National Federations will be represented.

The men will depart at 16:30 and the women at 16:40 (local times).

A total of US$30’000 prize money, equally distributed between men and women, is available for each of the FINA / CNSG Marathon Swim Series leg.

Marc-Antoine Olivier (FRA) and Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA) retained the first gold medals in Doha (QAT) at the season opener. 

Olivier clocked 1h52m02s4 for victory, while Cunha was the fasted in 2h01m30s3. Kristof Rasovszky (HUN, 1h52m05s5) and Gregorio Paltrinieri (ITA, 1h52m07s9) closed the podium in March.

Oceane Cassignol (FRA, 2h01m30s8) and Lea Boy (GER, 2h01m31s9) clinched silver and bronze.

The 2021 circuit of the Marathon Swim World Series next stops in Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and Israel.
