The Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), with the cooperation of the International Testing Agency (ITA), is pleased to confirm that – as from January 1, 2021 - it expects to surpass a total number of 2'000 out-of-competition anti-doping tests prior to the start of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Despite the challenges endured during the COVID-19 pandemic, FINA and ITA developed a comprehensive, fair, and strategic testing distribution plan that will ensure an adequate number of out-of-competition tests are completed before our Aquatics athletes reach Tokyo. FINA is grateful for the cooperation of all athletes during this difficult pandemic period.
FINA will continue its rigorous efforts to fight doping in Aquatic sports through the end of the year and in advance of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Abu Dhabi, in December 2021, and in the months prior to the FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, in May 2022.
The 2019 Testing Figures Report published by WADA in December 2020 showed that FINA, as Testing Authority, is one of the leading International Federations for the number of tests conducted out-of-competition (see https://www.wada-ama.org/sites/default/files/resources/files/2019_anti-doping_testing_figures_en.pdf).
