Sanchez, silver medallist at London 2012 said that competing in Mexico is special for the Mexican team and that they feel privileged to participate in the Diving World Series because they are competing with the best divers in the world.

“We are very pleased with this result and our gold medal in Mexico is special because the public supports us a lot. I am fortunate to be competing with the world's best and legends like Jose. The competition this year was very good for us, with six stages we have been on the podium five times. The most important is that we are more confident and are fully prepared for the next major competitions that are coming up”.

Ivan Garcia (MEX), silver medallist in the 10m platform in London 2012, highlighted the need to increase the degree of difficulty in their jumps.

“Let's keep working. If you want to be the best you must take even more difficult series and we have to improve our technique to make a difference.”

The competition started with a forward dive from the Mexican Olympic medallists Paola Espinosa and Alejandra Orozco - the duo that won the silver medal in the same event at the Olympic Games in London. They started to motivate the crowd in the arena who came to see the most awarded divers in Mexico. Five sequences of jumps completed the women's race.

Chinese Yajie Si and Jie Lian bet a growing following in degree of difficulty and the last execution – a back two and a half somersaultone and a half twists - They took gold with 333.72 points.

“We are happy with the result in Merida because we got a much higher performance than previously in the seriesr” said Yajie Si.

The Canadians Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion who alternated the first place during all the event with the Malaysians Yee Mun Leong and Hoong Cheong ended second scoring 328.41 points against 312.90 for the Malaysians.

National stars Paola and Alejandra finished in the fourth place with 312.90 point
