The traditional FINA Gala Dinner, staged during the 18th FINA World Championships, took place on July19 in Gwangju (KOR), gathered the FINA family in a day that commemorated the 111th anniversary of FINA. Representatives of National Federations, Technical Committees, sponsors and partners, media, and of course from the Organising Committee of the FINA showcase had the occasion to celebrate together the success of the Championships so far.
The FINA President Dr Julio C. Maglione welcomed the guests with some inspiring words: “We are halfway through a great competition: Open Water Swimming, Diving, and Artistic Swimming are concluding their events, while Water Polo proceeds with both the men’s and women’s tournament. Moreover, in the second week of the FINA showcase, Swimming and High Diving will generate memorable performances here in Korea. The quality of the venues and the top-level TV production are being highly appreciated by the FINA family.”
Dr Maglione continued by praising the hard work of all those contributing to this accomplishment. “All of you, members of the FINA Family, play a decisive role in this achievement. Our athletes, coaches, officials are devoted to the Aquatics’ winning strategy, and they are proving here in Gwangju that effort and dedication are key for success”, Dr Maglione said. “Let’s continue making Aquatics and FINA more attractive and successful for the years to come! I propose a toast to FINA in this special date! Happy Birthday FINA!”, the FINA President concluded.
In a sign of recognition for the Organisers’ commitment to deliver excellent conditions for all participants, the FINA President then awarded the “FINA Prize”, one of the highest recognitions of our International Federation, to Mr Lee Yong-sup, the Mayor of Gwangju.
The dinner was accompanied by music and dance performances, offering an attractive Korean experience and allowing guests to enjoy a relaxed evening before a full-packed week of competitions in Gwangju.
