Duet success

After winning her first two world synchro titles with Wu Minxia, the 2017 gold in Budapest was earned together with Chang Yani

Women’s diving is the only category where all eight awardees with the “FINA Best Athlete of the Year” prize since 2010 come from one sole country, in this case China

It’s the third consecutive time Shi Tingmao gets the annual FINA accolade, following previous successes in 2015 and 2016. The list also includes legends such as Chen Ruolin, Wu Minxia, He Zi and Liu Huixia

At the Budapest 2017 World Championships, Shi got only one 7.5 out of the 35 scores in the 3m springboard final. Otherwise, the remaining 34 notes ranged between 8.0 and 9.0

Double double

Shi Tingmao also did the double in the last two editions of the World Cup, in 2014 and 2016: victories in the 3m individual and 3m synchro springboard

“I like diving and enjoy the feeling of flying from the springboard. Diving is a fun sport but needs professional teaching and training. I really hope more people and kids fall in love with diving and try to learn the sport”

Perfect season

In 2017, Shi had a perfect season, with victories in both the 3m individual and 3m synchro springboard event at the FINA World Championships and FINA World Series

Hard competition

“The competitions nowadays are more fierce and cruel, any little mistake will change the colour of the medal from gold to silver, or bronze. Divers all over the world are getting stronger and better. What I can do is to work harder on the details and try to keep calm and cool-headed”

World Champs bonanza

Shi Tingmao has won six gold medals at the FINA Worlds: 1m in 2013, 3m individual in 2015 and 2017, and 3m synchro in 2013, 2015 and 2017
