December 12th, 2017

Early start

Kolesnichenko’s successful career at the highest level started in 2010, with two gold medals at the FINA World Cup: Team and Free Combination event

Olympic consecration

At 24, Kolesnichenko is also an Olympic champion: at the Rio 2016 Games, she was part of the Team – also comprising stars Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina – that earned gold

“I’m not a media personality. I’m not one to exhibit my private life. My Instagram is more about sport. Besides I’m old- fashioned. I prefer face-to-face contact. I use internet or social media to get information or to watch videos of our rivals”

Golden saga

At the Budapest 2017 FINA World Championships, Kolesnichenko earned four gold medals: solo technical and free, and duet technical and free

Russian tradition

Since 2010, the FINA prize has been awarded to Russian athletes, with one exception: in 2014, the winner was China’s Xuechen Huang

New goals

“You have to prove you are the best all the time. I got four gold medals in duet and solo in Budapest. But it doesn’t mean I’m without a rival because of my titles. New season – new goals. I’m full of energy and ready to work”

Also a legend

Svetlana Kolesnichenko is the third Russian artistic swimmer getting the FINA award, after two other legends in the sport: Natalia Ishchenko (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016) and Svetlana Romashina (2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016)

Besides her four titles in 2017, Kolesnichenko has collected nine other gold medals for a total of 13 wins at the FINA World Championships, since 2011

And the list goes on...

Svetlana Kolesnichenko is the latest star in a tradition of very successful Russian artistic swimmers over the last two decades: 10 Olympic and 51 World Championships’ gold medals won since 1998!
