SCHOLARSHIP
He was one of 36 athletes from across the world to receive a FINA Scholarship in 2017. The scholarship is designed to help the athletes to qualify and participate at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The scholarship also presented the athletes with an option to train at a FINA-approved training centre in Thailand, United States of America and Senegal. (fina.org, 01 Mar 2017)

He was born in Sweden to a Swedish mother and a Libyan father. He grew up in Sweden, but decided to represent Libya. "I like representing Libya. I was born in Sweden and grew up there, but my father is from Libya and I still have relatives there. It feels like a part of me is from Libya." His family moved to Plymouth, England, in 2011 where he attended school, before returning to Sweden.
