Rio de Janeiro 2016

With the occasion of the recent designation of Rio de Janeiro (BRA) as host of the 2016 Olympic Games, FINA President and IOC Member Dr. Julio C. Maglione had the opportunity of meeting the President of Brazil Lula da Silva (left) and IOC Member João Havelange (BRA, right).

2009 OWS Grand Prix: Racing through Canyon Country

Famous open water swimmers Peter Stoychev (BUL) and Britta Kamrau-Corestein (GER) were winners of the fourth race of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix 2009 series. This event was held at Mexico’s beautiful Sumidero Canyon in the Grijalva River on April 18, where Stoychev imposed a new record for the 15km route with a time of 3h9m49s.

César Cielo: Brazil’s golden boy

The richness of the swimming results at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (CHN) made each of the sessions at the “Water Cube” a fantastic experience for spectators and TV viewers and provided unforgettable memories for many countries and athletes. Saturday, August 16 confirmed this rule: for the record books, it was the day when Michael Phelps (USA) conquered his seventh gold medal (in a dramatic final of the men’s 100m butterfly), equalling the feat of Mark Spitz at the 1972 Munich Olympics
