Canada became the first team to go to the semifinals with an emphatic victory over Russia. Hungary was in the hunt in the second quarter when after 2-0 down went 4-3 ahead but Canada regrouped, went to 5-4 only to see DRAVUCZ pulled Russia back to even. With ROBINSON on fire from outside, Canada went 8-5 ahead soon after the final break. Canada went to a timeout at 2:34 and converted the extra-man chance for 9-6 and the game was dead.
TOTH scored a consolation goal from centre forward but the Canadians were already dancing poolside.
