In the battle for last place, neither team wanted the accolade. Both teams fought vigorously and none more so than the inexperienced South Africans.
They still managed to score what many coaches would regard as a winning score but Uzbekistan was smarter on the extra-man plays and appeared more balanced around the pool. For Uzbekistan the result was a repeat of 2005 in Montreal, Canada. For South Africa it was a valuable debut at this level.
