Around 200 swimmers from 32 countries aged between 14 and 19 year-old will be racing at the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships 2016 in Hoorn, Netherlands this weekend from Saturday July 16 to Monday July 18.

While a total of races in each gender, as well as two mixed races are on the programme, the young and promising athletes will be divided into age groups as follows: 14-15 years-old / 16-17 years-old / 18-19 years-old / 14-16 and U19 for the mixed relay event.

After a successful edition in 2014 in Balatonfured, Hungary, the following countries are gathering in Hoorn: Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Spain, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay, USA, Venezuela.

Three mass races will be run in parallel of the World Junior Championships.

As a reminder, China topped the medals table at the previous edition of the event two years ago, with two gold medals, one silver and one bronze, while Hungary claimed two victories and one bronze and Russia one gold, two silver and one bronze.
