The Olympic Flame made a stopover to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne today, following a ceremony at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday April 29.

The Flame, that was brought to the Museum by rowers, a sport that Baron Pierre de Coubertin particularly loved, carries the strong IOC values such as tolerance, solidarity and peace

Rowing athlete Barnabe Delarze carried the Flame up the hill of the Olympic Park from the lake

The Flame, a strong Olympic symbol since Ancient Greece, was handover from the Hellenic Olympic Committee to the Rio 2016 Organising Committee earlier this week, on Wednesday April 27, in an iconic stadium packed with 30,000 people.

Speaking today at the ceremony held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, IOC President Thomas Bach said : « Today’s stopover of the Olympic Flame in Lausanne is very symbolic because Lausanne was the city our founder the Baron Pierre de Courbertin chose more than 100 years ago to establish the IOC headquarters.

As of May 3, the Flame will resume its route for the torch relay throughout all Brazilian States until the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on August 5. In Brazil the Flame will be carried by about 12,000 torchbearers over 95 days during which it will visit more than 300 towns and cities.

The Rio 2016 Organising Committee, represented by its President Carlos Arthur Nuzman, among other official guests, attended the sunny celebrations.
