After the success of Daryna, it was the turn of her compatriot Maksym Shemberev (1993) to reach the top. He won the 400m individual medley (4:15.64), also a new record of the meet (improving the 4:19.86 Japan’s Kosuke Hagino had clocked n the heats). Kosuke (4:17:15) got the bronze medal, also under his previous best time. The silver went to Li Xiang (CHN, 1994, 4:17:00).

The women’s 1500m freestyle had a thrilling duel between Tjasa Oder (SLO, 1994, 16:18.65) and Rachel Zilinski (USA, 1994, 16:18.83). Tjasa controlled the first half of the race staying among the first four swimmers. From the middle to the end, the American started to take the lead, but the Slovenian was faster in the final sprint. The third place went to Claudia Dasca (ESP, 1994, 16:24.30).

After five days of competition, many athletes have already amassed medal number two or three. This was the case of Davis Maclin (USA, 1993, 24.26). He got the gold in the men’s 50m fly, after getting the title also in the 100m fly on Day 3. Croatia got the silver thanks to Mihael Vukic (1994, 24.30) while Italy’s Martino Lucatello (1994, 24.54) stayed with the bronze.  

The United States (3:42.85) won the duel with Canada (3:43:24) in the 4x100 freestyle relay. One of the highlights of the race was the new duel between the champion of the 100m freestyle, Lia Neal (USA, 1995) and the silver medallist in the same race, Chantal Van Landeghem (CAN, 1994). The two teams did better than the 3:43:54 of the American team in the 2008 edition of this event.
