In addition, two young stars did a very good job: Marie Kamimura, 16 years old, placed second in the women’s 200m backstroke, timing 2:08.52 and setting a new high-school record in Japan, while Rino Hosoda, 14 years old, won the women’s 100m butterfly in 58.45, establishing a new junior high-school record in Japan.
About 8,000 spectators came to enjoy the championships.
Further in aquatics news, the Japanese Swimming Federation introduced at a press conference on June 5, 2010, the new national synchronised swimming team for the 12th FINA Synchronised Swimming World Cup, to be held in China on September 16-19, 2010.
11 swimmers were selected: Yumi Adachi, Miho Arai, Mayo Itoyama, Yukiko Inui, Yui Ueminami, Chisa Kobayashi, Mariko Sakai, Misa Sugiyama, Mai Nakamura, Aika Hakoyama and Kurumi Yoshida. Age average is about 20 years old. Japanese head coach is Ms. Masami Hanamure. The team will head to the Cup after five hard training camps to be held at the Japan National Training Center in June, July and August.
