Four swimming legends are part of the 2016 Laureus nominees, it was announced on March 2, 2016.

World Record holder in the 400m, 800m and 1500m, Katie Ledecky (USA) is nominated in the category “Sportswomen of the Year”. At the FINA World Championships in Kazan 2015, Ledecky was the “Best Female Swimmer” of the competition, after earning five gold medals in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m free, as well as in the 4x 200m free.

World Champion and World Record holder (50m and 100m breaststroke) Adam Peaty (GBR) is nominated in the “Breakthrough of the Year” category, while 18 times Olympic Champion (the best in the Olympic Games history) Michael Phelps (USA) might get the “Laureus World Comeback” award.

Brazil’s para-athlete Daniel Dias, 15 Paralympic medals (Beijing 2008 – 4 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze; London 2012 – 6 golds) is nominated for the “Laureus Sportsperson of the Year.”
