Taking the relay button from Beijing and Guangzhou, China, the hospitable Russian city is set to welcome some 70 world’s exquisite divers, representing 13 nations.

Opening press-conference at the Aquatics Palace of Kazan

“We have the pleasure to be back in Kazan, which already hosted the FINA/NVC Diving World Series twice before and was a great host for the 2015 FINA World Championships, - said FINA President, Dr.Julio Maglione, opening up the press-conference, staged on the eve of the diving show. – The city is very nice, and we have a lot of friends here, and the organisers team is very professional”.

“I have already spoken to some divers and coaches, and they seem to be very happy with the way the competition goes and all services provided by the Organising Committee, - noted FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu. – I am sure, the competition will be a success and divers will show here their best skills”.

“The quality of the meet is very high, and Kazan spectators are lucky to watch it live, - confessed Khalil Shaykhutdinov, 1st Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan. - Each name is either a star or a living legend. The 3-day event will showcase the world diving cream: Olympic, world and European champions in action as they will shine bright with their diving skills.

Our public knows the names and the titles, and what to expect of each concrete star-athlete. We love aquatic sport and very grateful to FINA for the opportunity to stage such a high-profile event for the third time", - emphasized Khalil Shaykhutdinov.

Press-conference to preview the DWS Leg in Kazan enjoyed large media participation

“The venue is full ready for the start, - concluded Alexey Vlasenko, FINA Technical Diving Committee Vice-Chairman and Russian Diving Federation President. – We know the Aquatics Palace pretty well. It is a very cosy and warm arena, and very charming. Organising Committee has done a good job, and special words of gratitude to the Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov for his attentive attidude and all-round support of our sports”.

As usual, there are 10 medals sets on offer to be distributed in the individual, synchro and mixed events, both among men and women, in the 10m platform and 3m springboard.

The previous legs of the 2017 FINA/NVC  Diving World Series, which took place earlier this year in march, were hugely dominated by China. Chinese athletes grabbed 9 out of 10 titles on offer in Beijing, and then improved on their achievement up to a clean golden sweep in Guangzhou. So far, the only “foreign” man on top had been Jack Laugher of Great Britain, winning gold medal in 3m springboard. Other nations on the podium included Russia, Australia, North Korea, Malaysia, Mexico and Germany.
