The Prime Minister and the LOC leaders ensured the FINA President that the brand new swimming complex’s construction will be finished in time to host the 2017 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in the new venue. They pointed out that the design and the construction will cater all demands of the highest ranked events as Hungary plans to bid for a summer Olympics in the near future.
“We are always glad to come to Hungary” Dr. Julio C. Maglione said after the meeting.
“The Prime Minister’s invitation proves that this country really wishes to contribute a lot to aquatics. Hungary might only have 10 million inhabitants, but it plays a pivotal role in the sporting world.”
FINA Vice President Tamas Gyarfas, who also chairs the 2021 LOC with Lajos Kosa, added: “The FINA leaders were really satisfied that they were not only welcomed last year to earn their backing for our bid but our Prime Minister wishes to meet them from time to time to exchange ideas as Hungary really wants to stage the greatest World Championships ever, moreover, we wish to host further major FINA events in the following years.”
The FINA President and the Executive Director also visited the Margaret Island where – on the site of the ongoing European Water Polo Championships – the promotional pavilion and the mascot of the 2021 World Championships have been presented publicly for the first time.
