The swimming world has learnt with immense sadness about the death of Kenneth To (HKG), who lost his life at only 26, after a training session in the USA on March 18, 2019.

Swimming for Australia until 2016, To was presently representing his native Hong Kong. He began to shine at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, where he earned six medals – gold in the 4x100m medley, silver in the 50m free, 200m IM and 4x100m free mixed, and bronze in the 100m free and 4x100m medley mixed relay.

In 2012, he won the men’s overall title in the FINA Swimming World Cup, before claiming three medals in the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul (TUR): silver in the 100m IM and bronze in the 4x100m free and 4x100m medley.

Some months later, at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona (ESP), To was silver medallist in the 4x100m medley relay.

Presently training in Florida (USA), To had set a priority for the months to come: the qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo (JPN).

Owner of many Hong Kong national swimming records, Kenneth To was a reference and example for the youth in the territory.

In this moment of grief, FINA sends its heartfelt condolences to To’s entourage and to the entire swimming community in Hong Kong.
