In the Mixed Duet Technical Routine, which was the first event, Italian Manila Flamini and Giorgio Minisini won this title with 88.3920 points thanks to their harmonious movement.

The same pair won gold in the same event at the FINA World Championship 2017 in Budapest last summer.

The audience was blown away by their dynamic and powerful performance, as the duet was congratulated by a great round of applause.

”Our performance today was very good. We confirm that we are getting stronger every year. I am going to produce the better result than that of the first leg in Paris. We are working hard on our free routine and we are confident to score more than 90 points,” Giorgio said.

Although they were not satisfied with their performance, Japan’s Atushi Abe and Yumi Adachi, collected 85.2373 points to secure the second place. They were fourth at the Budapest World Championships.

“Our coach told us that it was not good. I also think so. I would like to do my best in the Mixed Duet tomorrow to sweep this regret.” Atsushi said.

Pau Ribes and Berta Ferreras of Spain earned 82.8135 points to the bronze. They were fifth at the Budapest World Championships.

“We are happy with this result and are getting better each time, little by little. As a new duet, we are still growing technically. For the mixed duet free routine, we have been well-prepared to change the difficulty of each technical part. Those preparations will lead to the performance tomorrow,” Pau said.

In the Duet Technical Routine, Japan’s Yukiko Inui and Kanami Nakamaki kept high performance till the end with their wonderful height and their synchronisation. They claimed the gold with 91.0427 points.

“As our theme is "Ninja (Kunoichi)", the music is light and it seems to be Japanese-style. It was a very suitable performance for us. Myy favourite choreography was the last scene, which expresses how we disappear with the "Ninja power". I got higher scores than those in the previous leg in Paris, so I think that I can move on to the next step,” Yukiko said.

Italian pair Linda Cerruti and Costanza Ferro, marked 88.4489 points to secure the second place.

“We are really satisfied with this result. In addition, we could perform the elements and other parts of our routine very well. Looking forward, we have to improve the synchronisation,” Linda said.

Paula Ramirez and Sara Saldanha (ESP) claimed bronze with 87.0721 points.

“Last year we had little time to train as a duet, and we were nervous because of it was the first time for us. After we had decided to pair together, we trained a lot. Since we work with our coach, the team has been organised in everything, like the schedule and the discipline. That makes our team much better now,” Paula and Sara told the reporter on-site.

The participating countries in the Highlight Routine were France and Uzbekistan. Both teams showed brilliant performances that consisted of acrobatic movements.

Team France won gold with 84.2667 points ahead of Uzbekistan, which collected 79.4000 points.

“I think we showed what we wanted to with our routine today. We are so happy because it was our best performance so far. It is our pleasure to swim here with French traditional music ’Le Moulin Rouge, the French CanCan’. It was very important for us to perform with this song. It is true that this rhythm of the song gave us energy,” Maureen Jenkins said.

In the preliminary phase of the Solo Free, Yukiko Inui (JPN) led the way with 92.6667 points. Linda Cerruti (ITA) was second with 89.9667 points, and Evangelia Platanioti (GRE) moved on to the final with 89.2667 points .

On Day 3, three events will be held: the Mixed Duet Free Routine, Team Free Routine, and the preliminary of Duet Free Routine.
