Few hours after the FINA General Congress, where Dr Julio C. Maglione was re-elected as FINA President, the Aquatics family gathered in an outstanding Gala, held at the impressive Opera House in Budapest (HUN). Under a magnificent scenario, all the guests could gather for a joyful dinner, where music and light created a special atmosphere before the start of the Swimming competition this Sunday in the Duna Arena.

“As I said few hours ago, the richness of the FINA Family is our unity behind common goals: promote our Stars, support our National Federations and organise great competitions in outstanding locations”, considered the FINA President. “That is the key for success in Aquatics! That is also why our Sport is now at the top of the Olympic programme regarding the highest number (49) of medal events”, Dr Maglione continued.

“Before the start of the Swimming competition tomorrow, we have already experienced great achievements and unforgettable moments in the first week, with Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Open Water Swimming and Water Polo”, he also stated. “I have received the best possible feedback from all those attending this competition: athletes, coaches and officials feel at home here in this beautiful Magyar capital!” Dr Maglione concluded.

The Gala Dinner was also a privileged occasion to pay a fair tribute to all those supporting Aquatics.

The FINA President awarded the FINA Order, the highest FINA recognition, to the President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr Thomas Bach, for his “outstanding work for the development of our Sport”.

The FINA Prize was also given to Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, ANOC President.
