The second day of the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2019 in Tokyo, Japan, had a series of exciting events for the audience.
The start of the day was highlighted by the Team Free event. Japan’s theme was Matsuri (a Japanese Festival relating to indigenous divine affairs) and the routine they displayed was performed dynamically and beautifully as suggested by their coach yesterday avec the team won the Team Techincal. People on-site agreed to say that the Japanese show was fun, brilliant, entertaining and exciting from the very beginning until the end.
As a result, Japan scored 93.0333 points for the Team free, adding a second gold to their Tokyo tally.
“This punchy music helps us a lot. Clarifying what we have to improve, we will do our best to carry on to the better consequence for the upcoming World Championships,” Inui said.
The second place was attributed to Spain, a team led by Ona Carbonell (89.2667 points), while Canada was third with 88.2000 points in succession of their silver medal in the Team Technical of the first day.
The Duet Free was the most attractive event of this second day: World’s famous Russian stars Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Svetlana Romashina were on the stage. The other strong duet was composed of the Chinses sisters Jiang Wenwen and Jiang TingTing, World Championships 2017 silver medallists.
Other notable swimmers were Japan's duo Yukiko Inui (who impressed the audience with her highly solo skilful routine yestrerday) paired with Megumu Yoshida, and Italian duo Linda Cerruti and Costanza Ferro, as well as France's promising twins, Charlotte et Laure Tremble.
However the Russian pair outdistanced their rivals with a wide margin that demonstrated their ability. Their theme was ‘Alien’, the same performed in Kazan World Championships in 2015 and it allowed them to clinch the gold medal with 96.9333 points.
“Everything was good. Our programme was so interesting that we could earn the points over the Impression. We are currently trying to qualify to the 2020 Olympic Games so we need to practice to eliminate all mistakes that we still sometimes make,” Romashina said.
Japan’s theme was 'Time Leap’ and it expressed a great synchronisation to catch the second position with 94.2000 points.
In the third place, it was the China who showed their original act with (93.7667).
Rounding off the second day with the Mixed Duet Free, Russian pair Aleksandr Maltsev and Mayya Gurbanberdieva, Technical mixed duet winner on Day 1, and Italian pair Giorgio Minisini and Manila Flamini, World Championships 2017 champions, attracted great attention to the audience.
With their original story, including dynamic and artistic choreography, Gurbanberdieva and Maltsev showed everything that they had to the audience to take the crown (93.5333).
“Our theme today was ‘Fashionista’ set in the 40’s to 60’s. We are glad that the audience could feel the atmosphere as we tried to express it in the water along the famous song ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’,” Maltsev said.
Japan's Atsushi Abe and Yumi Adachi swam under the theme of 'Tarzan & Jane Jungle', and secured the third place with 89.8333 points. It was their best score so far.
The more events will be held on the final day of the this leg, on Monday April 29. The Highlight Routine with acrobatic motion and floating action, the Free Combination and the highly anticipated Solo Free.
