Despite the sixth position, Qiu Bo (CHN) performed the perfect dive during the men’s 10m platform final: for his reverse 3 ½ somersaults (DD 3.4), he got seven perfect 10s from the judges for a note of 102.00 points

Did you know that despite its strength over the last years, Serbia as such had never won the Olympic title? They did it today, by beating Croatia 11-7. In the last two editions of the Games, the Balkan squad had been twice third

Italy is the third nation in Water Polo history with a medal in the men’s and women’s tournaments in the same edition of the Games (in Rio: bronze among men and silver in the women’s). Only Russia (2000: silver, men; bronze, women) and USA (2008: silver in both men’s and women’s) had achieved that feat

Quote of the Day

"Serbia was the best team. We tried everything we had against them but they were just too physical and strong. The result shows that. I believe that 10 or 11 players on this team will play in Tokyo. I'm very optimistic about our chances in 2020."
- Ivica Tucak, coach Croatia, silver

Double gold

Perfect Games for Chen Aisen in Rio 2016: after his 10m platform synchronised title, the 20-year-old Chinese star gets the gold in the individual event. These are his first Olympic successes after the 2015 synchro title in Kazan

The silver medal of German Sanchez in the men’s 10m platform (in front of 2012 champion David Boudia) is the first podium presence for Mexico in aquatic events in Rio. It is however the 12th medal for the nation’s male swimmers in Olympic history

After performing brilliantly in the preliminaries (ranking first), Tom Daley (GBR) was far from perfection in the semis of the event, finishing 18th and last, missing the final and the opportunity to medal (he was third in London 2012)

After the 46 aquatic events on the programme, 26 NOC/NF earned at least one medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Sixteen of them won gold medals, while the best of the medal chart was the USA with 37 podium presences
