He began diving at age seven.
Why this sport?
His mother and his father coached diving and basketball, respectively, so he was encouraged to take up both sports at an early age. He chose to pursue diving in his freshman year of high school after the training schedules for both sports conflicted. "The one resource I avidly sought from a young age was knowledge. I wanted to know what the best divers did that made them so good."
