He has hypermobility in his right shoulder, which makes the joint more susceptible to dislocation. "It's something peculiar to be so flexible. It's something I must live with and take care of, not only in my shoulders but my whole body." He considered retirement in 2018 after again having surgery, this time for a fracture to his left eye socket. "I was lying on the bed at the hospital and I thought, 'I do not know if I'm coming back.
