Swimming Coaches clinic leads to happy reunion (LAO)
Diving Judges school is a success in Medellin (COL)
A FINA Diving Judges Certification Course was successfully held in Medellin, Colombia from September 7-9, 2011. FINA TDC Events Sub-Committee Members Frans Van De Konijenburg (NED) and Mathz Lindberg (SWE) conducted the advanced-level school which was attended by 35 participants from 11 different countries! If more than a third were locals, the rest of the group comprised judges from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, USA and Venezuela. As a result, both English and Spanish were used during the three-day school.
"We may consider the outcome [of this school] as one of the most successful in terms of numbers and results. All students were extremely motivated and eager to do well," the lecturers happily noted.
OWS Judges get started in Puerto Rico
A clinic for Open water swimming Judges (beginner level) was organised for the first time in two different cities, San Juan and Ponce, from August 28 to September 4, 2011. 36 participants (21 from San Juan and 15 from Ponce) learned the basics from expert Tomas Haces German, Member of FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee.
The course's topics were: Introduction to Open Water events, Rules (study and analysis), Organisation and Security in Open water events, Responsibilities and Ethics of Judges in Open water events. "Puerto Rico has big possibilities to develop Open Water Swimming. After the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Championships were held in the country, a keen interest developed for athletes, coaches and judges in the discipline," rejoiced Haces.
Narrowing the gap in Managua (NCA)
The "Complejo Militar Barracudas" in the city of Managua, Nicaragua, welcomed 22 Swimming Judges (intermediate level) for a clinic from August 26-31, 2011. Onsite expert Jose Ismael Gonzales from Guatemala, TSC Events Sub-Committee Member, shared his valuable knowledge with a group of both experienced and beginner-level judges. "All of them were very keen to learn and willing to participate," he recalled.
The course included topics such as FINA structure and history, Swimming Rules, Facilities, etc. "It is necessary to continue supporting this country with clinics to improve their level so that they can reach the same level than other developed countries", noted Gonzales.
Swimming clinic attracts many in Abidjan (CIV)
The Fédération Ivoirienne de Natation et de Sauvetage (F.I.N.S.) held a clinic for Swimming Judges, Officials and Referees in Côte d'Ivoire's capital, Abidjan from August 23-26 2011. Swimming expert Thierry Bonnamant from France was welcomed by 44 participants eager to learn the ropes of officiating at national swimming events.
The three-day course was divided in five modules, including the following topics: Swimming Rules, Antidoping Control, Swimsuits Rules, Jury of appeal, etc. On top of this, pool practice and debriefing sessions together with the NF's authorities and federal coach took place.
Olympic Solidarity's training continues in Guayaquil (ECU)
After a successful stop in Asia, the FINA/IOC Olympic Solidarity Development Programme heads back to the Americas for an advanced-level Technical Course for Swimming Coaches in Guayaquil, Ecuador from August 8-12, 2011.
In all, 30 participants (among which one woman) attended the five-day course led by Cuban expert Ibrahim Rogelio Zaldivar Ochoa, who is affiliated to the Federación Colombiana de Natación as a Technical director for the Liga de Natación de Boyacá and Coach for Selección Colombia.
Thumbs up for Swimming Coaches clinic in Mombasa (KEN)
The Kenya Swimming Federation organised a Swimming Coaches (Level 2) clinic from August 3-12, 2011 in Mombasa. 30 enthusiastic participants with various coaching knowledge and from all corners of Kenya took part in the 9-day course given by expert Gerd Nottelmann from Germany.
The course covered all areas of building the swimmer's technique and swimming style. The coaches were also taught how to plan their programme in different stages according to the swimmer's abilities. The course went on to approach the swimmer's physiology and ways of dealing with young and older swimmers. The course was very interactive and fruitful for the coaches who did not hesitate to ask questions and suggest ideas for the whole time. Group discussions also took place with each group presenting their work in front of others. An examination took place at the end of the clinic.
Olympic Solidarity makes last Asian stop in Malaysia
The Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia benefited from the FINA/IOC Olympic Solidarity Development Programme during a Technical Course for Swimming Coaches (Intermediate level) taking place from June 29 to July 4, 2011 at the National Sports Council in Kuala Lumpur. In all, 26 participants attended the five-day course conducted by Australia's Frank Hohmann, who shared his knowledge and expertise.
Diving Judges school held in Belgrade (SRB)
The following topics were discussed: Rules pertaining to The Starting Position, Takeoff, Flight, Entry and all the judging requirements associated therewith. The participants were given the opportunity to test their recently-acquired skills at the European Junior Diving Championships, which were taking place in the Serbian capital from June 6-10.
Successful Swimming Officials clinic held in Namibia
British expert Neil Booth, who has a long experience as a Referee at all competition levels, was onsite to deliver the course. The topics included Roles & Responsibilities of Officials, Strokes and Racing, etc. A Gala was also organised for the participants to practice various poolside roles. With such variety among participants, the level of participation, enthusiasm and commitment turned out to be excellent, notel Booth.
