Swimming Coaches upgrade skills in Kiew Zaporizhzhya (UKR)
The course focused on teaching skills and values, motivating swimmers, coaching and the law, basic biomechanics, physiology of training, practical coaching tips in daily training, among other topics.
Stepping stone for Water polo coaching in Lima (PER)
A clinic for water polo coaches (beginner level) was held in Lima, Peru, from November 9-16, 2012. FINA Bureau Member Eugenio Martinez (CUB), who has officiated as water polo referee at six Olympic Games, trained 54 participants.
Open water coaches take the plunge in Bali (INA)
Bali's Sanur beach served as a beautiful backdrop for the open water swimming coaches clinic (intermediate level) held at Indonesia's famous seaside resort from November 7-11, 2012.
Australian open water swimming expert Dick Campion trained 24 participants, most locals, on various aspects of the sport: identifying OWS talent, swim programmes and drills, planning training schedules, on-deck coach attitude and performance, diet and carbo loading, to name a few.
Swimming clinic benefits all in Koror (PLW)
In order to continue spreading swimming knowledge and expertise in the Pacific, a FINA Development clinic for swimming coaches (beginner) was organised in Koror, Palau from October 30 to November 7, 2012.
Rick Powers (USA) trained no less than 46 participants in a week-long course. The programme included two days of instruction for swim teachers and school PE teachers on how to teach swimming, and one session on open water, a point that is all the more relevant when living on an island.
FINA Development continues programme in the Pacific
Kwajalein Island, the southernmost and largest island in the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, played host to a swimming clinic for beginner-level coaches from October 14-27, 2012.
American swimming expert Rick Powers trained 16 participants, focusing on the physiology of training, season planning, motivation, mental training and stroke technique. Kids from local swimming clubs enthusiastically took part in the practical sessions at the swimming pool and at the beach.

British synchro expert Jennifer Gray, FINA TSSC Member, said on the five-day course: "The participants were very active learners and joined in group tasks very enthusiastically. They were keen to share their own knowledge and produced some very original ideas."
Water polo coaches get started in Pune (IND)
A clinic for water polo coaches (beginner and intermediate) took place in Pune, Western India, from October 1-5, 2012. Niculae Firoiu from Greece, who has been water polo head coach of the German Swimming Federation for 26 years, trained a total 40 participants during the five-day course.
Promising Swimming Coaches clinic held in Kampala (UGA)
26 swimming coaches attended an advanced clinic in Kampala, Uganda, from September 10-19, 2012 conducted by Gerd Nottelmann from Germany.
The clinic’s primary focus was on building capacity of coaches in Uganda. The objectives of the clinic were to develop high-level swimming coaches in Uganda and build from the previously held FINA Development swimming clinic held in July 2011.
Thumbs up for Swimming Coaches clinic in St. Lucia
A successful clinic for swimming coaches (intermediate level) was organised at Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre in Castries, St. Lucia from September 3-9, 2012.
The course, which was conducted by Marta Belsh from Swimming Canada, welcomed 18 participants and covered the following topics: long-term athlete development, design of seasonal plan, mental preparation, nutrition, swimmer tracking performance, parents communication. Pool sessions including starts, turns, relay takeover, IM transitions and open water were also held.
First Swimming Officials clinic organised in Accra (GHA)
In their efforts to foster the development of Swimming in the country, the Ghana Swimming and Life Saving Association organised, in conjunction with FINA's Development programme, the first clinic for swimming officials (beginner level) in Accra, Ghana, from September 1-5, 2012, which brought together 18 participants.
FINA TSC Member Olugbenga Lawal from Nigeria conducted the course at Accra's Sports Stadium. The course, which combined both theory and practice, proved to be a very useful training for all participants.
