Technical Officials attend Swimming clinic in Kathmandu (NEP)
A total of 30 participants from Nepal attended a swimming clinic for Technical Officials (Beginner to Intermediate level) from the FINA Development Programme hosted by the Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) on April 18-22, 2010.
The training programme was inaugurated by Mr. Pitambar Timilsina, Vice President of the National Sports Council of Nepal. The five-day clinic was given by Mr. Ong Hock Lai, Chairman of the Technical Swimming Committee of the Singapore Swimming Association, and comprised a good mix of both theory and practical session in the lecture room and pool deck at the Satdobato Swimming Complex in Kathmandu.
Thumbs up for Coaches clinic in Botswana (BOT)
43 coaches from all parts of Botswana attended a Swimming Coaches clinic (Level 1 & 2) in Francistown (BOT) on April 16-20, 2010. All participants had different levels of expertise, teaching either at a junior or senior school, at university or in a club.
The Botswana Swimming Sports Association (BSSA) welcomed visiting lecturer Larry Laursen to give the clinic, which took place at the Thornhill Primary School.
Olympic Solidarity makes second stop in Africa (KEN)
The FINA/IOC Olympic Solidarity Development Programme held a technical course for Swimming Coaches (Advanced level) in Nairobi, Kenya, on April 13-22, 2010. In all, 33 local participants made it to the YMCA classroom to benefit from the great experience of expert Derek Howorth from USA Swimming.
The course mixed theoretical content, such as foundations of coaching, coaching tools, diet, differences between winter and summer training, etc., with practical water sessions, explaining drills, dry-land exercises, stroke mechanics and progressions, kicking, starts and turns, etc.
Olympic Solidarity carries its mission in Netanya (ISR)
The Olympic Solidarity continues to develop the technical sports knowledge of coaches by organising, together with FINA, a Technical Course for Advanced-level Swimming Coaches at the Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sport, in Netanya, Israel, from April 9-16, 2010.
The course, held in both English and Hebrew, gathered about 45 local participants. Renowed American expert Genadijus Sokolovas, Senior Physiologist Ph.D., shared his valuable knowledge, having worked with top-level USA swimmers.
Olympic Solidarity heads for Asia (BRN)
A FINA/Olympic Solidarity Technical Course for Swimming Coaches (Intermediate Level) successfully concluded at the Shaikh Khalifa Sports City in Riffa, Kingdom of Bahrain, on April 13, 2010. 22 coaches, among which two women, attended the ten-day course, where expert Jack Simon from the USA shared the best of his knowledge together with ten two-hour practical sessions.
Olympic Solidarity programme kicks off in Djibouti (DJI)
The FINA/IOC Olympic Solidarity Development Programme held its first technical school in Djibouti (DJI) on 13-20 March, 2010.
Longtime Olympic Solidarity programme expert Michel Pedroletti from Marseille (FRA) gave the course in French to 18 local participants, who aspire to become great swimming coaches. They surely learned from the best as Michel Pedroletti is a former elite backstroke swimmer, former national coach (who notably trained two Olympic swimmers) and former Director for French swimming teams.
Successful FINA Swimming Officials clinic held in Noumea (NCL)
A clinic for Swimming Officials was held in Noumea, New Caledonia, on February 17-21, 2010. In all, 45 Officials (42 local and 3 foreign participants) took part in the Clinic, organised for an intermediate to advanced Official’s level, with as main lecturer Mr. Gérard Lesur (Fédération Française de Natation Official).
FINA Synchro Judges school held in Prague (CZE)
44 FINA Judges from 15 countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia and Venezuela) took part in a School for Synchronised Swimming on February 17-21, 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic.
Well-done job at OWS and Swimming clinic, Samoa (SAM)
A clinic for swimming and open water swimming for coaches, teachers and swimmers (beginner to advanced competitive swimming level) was held in Pago Pago, American Samoa Islands, on February 15-24, 2010. Three coaches, six teachers and 20 swimmers took part in the clinic given by Mr. Willem Sakovich, USA Swimming Coach in Hawai’i and former Coach of Northern Marianas Islands.
Action for young swimmers in Asia
Many different actions of the Olympic Solidarity (OS) can be of great help to the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and Swimming National Federations. One of them is the Talent Identification Project, an excellent tool to detect and to help young champions on a continental basis. In the frame work of this politics and to complete it Olympic Solidarity launched the "2012 - Training Grants for Young Athletes" World Programme. And for the first time for FINA Family, Asian young swimmers from 25 countries participated to a special course conducted on August 5-10, 2005 in Bangkok (THA). This project was jointly financed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Olympic Solidarity.
