Swimming Officials school is a hit in Santo Domingo (DOM)
A FINA school for swimming officials, the first of the year in the Americas region, was organised in Santo Domingo (DOM) with 42 participants from February 16-17, 2013. 32 were locals, two came from the Bahamas, two from the Bermudas, four from Colombia and one from St. Lucia.
FINA TSC Honorary Secretary Soren Korbo (DEN) and FINA TSC Member Errol Clarke (BAR) conducted the two-day course at the National Olympic Committee House and pool sessions at the outdoor National Swimming Complex, build in 2003 for the Pan American Games.
Successful school for Swimming Officials held in Marrakech (MAR)
All participants showed a high level of enthusiasm and interest and were very much involved in the content presented through the course.
FINA Development programme 2012 concludes in Manama (BRN)
Egyptian diving expert Mohamed Eissa Swafy conducted the course in Arabic, training 19 participants on various subjects: selection of divers, physical preparation, training from the start, using additional training equipments, degrees of difficulty, judging rules, biomechanics, etc.
Top-level synchro coach Fujiki feels the passion for the sport in La Havana (CUB)
The Cuba Swimming Federation organised, as part of the FINA Development programme, a synchronised swimming clinic that brought together 28 coaches and judges from intermediate to advanced level from December 15-19, 2012.
Water polo clinic trains Referees in Curacao (AHO)
Swimming Coaches upgrade skills in Kiew Zaporizhzhya (UKR)
The course focused on teaching skills and values, motivating swimmers, coaching and the law, basic biomechanics, physiology of training, practical coaching tips in daily training, among other topics.
Stepping stone for Water polo coaching in Lima (PER)
A clinic for water polo coaches (beginner level) was held in Lima, Peru, from November 9-16, 2012. FINA Bureau Member Eugenio Martinez (CUB), who has officiated as water polo referee at six Olympic Games, trained 54 participants.
Open water coaches take the plunge in Bali (INA)
Bali's Sanur beach served as a beautiful backdrop for the open water swimming coaches clinic (intermediate level) held at Indonesia's famous seaside resort from November 7-11, 2012.
Australian open water swimming expert Dick Campion trained 24 participants, most locals, on various aspects of the sport: identifying OWS talent, swim programmes and drills, planning training schedules, on-deck coach attitude and performance, diet and carbo loading, to name a few.
Swimming clinic benefits all in Koror (PLW)
In order to continue spreading swimming knowledge and expertise in the Pacific, a FINA Development clinic for swimming coaches (beginner) was organised in Koror, Palau from October 30 to November 7, 2012.
Rick Powers (USA) trained no less than 46 participants in a week-long course. The programme included two days of instruction for swim teachers and school PE teachers on how to teach swimming, and one session on open water, a point that is all the more relevant when living on an island.
FINA Development continues programme in the Pacific
Kwajalein Island, the southernmost and largest island in the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, played host to a swimming clinic for beginner-level coaches from October 14-27, 2012.
American swimming expert Rick Powers trained 16 participants, focusing on the physiology of training, season planning, motivation, mental training and stroke technique. Kids from local swimming clubs enthusiastically took part in the practical sessions at the swimming pool and at the beach.
