Swimming Officials attend clinic in Managua (NCA)

The Piscina Barracudas in Managua, Nicaragua welcomed 33 swimming officials for an intermediate-level clinic from August 20-24, 2012 conducted by Jose Ismael Gonzales from Guatemala.

During the five-day course, Gonzales shared his Olympic Games and World Championships experience, addressing also the judge's various roles and duties and going through FINA's structure, Constitution and Rules.

Open water Officials train skills ahead of 1st Junior Champs in Welland (CAN)

It was a busy day at Welland's International Flatwater Centre, Ont. Canada, on August 15, 2012 as 29 open water swimming officials gathered to take part in an intermediate clinic conducted by FINA TOWSC Member John West from New Zealand.

The course took place a day before the inaugural edition of the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships, taking place also in Welland. The course gave a useful insight into open water swimming procedures at FINA events.

 

Swimming Officials learning the ropes in Tegucigalpa (HON)

The Federacion Hondurena de Natacion organised a FINA development clinic for swimming officials  (intermediate level) in Tegucigalpa from August 12-19, 2012. The course, which was conducted by Joel Ugarte Ferrari from the Federacion Peruana de Natation, gathered 15 participants.

On the first five days, participants went through a number of essential theoretical aspects of officiating in Swimming. The opportunity was then given to participants to test their skills at the National Swimming Championships taking place from August 17-19.

Swimming clinic makes stop in Georgetown (VIN)

A swimming clinic for intermediate-level coaches and officials was organised at Georgetown's local swimming pool, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, from July 23-28, 2012.

Rick Powers (USA) taught a group of 27 locals - coaches, officials and swimmers - the physiology of training, season planning, motivation, parent education, FINA rules, duties of officials, daily workout planning for age group swimmers and how to organise a coach's association. 

 

Swimming Officials school held in Johannesburg (RSA)

The fifth swimming officials school of the FINA programme 2012 was successfully hosted by Swimming South Africa in Johannesburg from July 22-23, 2012. FINA TSC Soren Korbo (DEN) conducted the course, which was attended by 38 participants. Among them, 31 came from various regions of the host federation and seven from four other countries (Zambia, Swaziland, Botswana and Uganda).

The participants actively took part in the theory sessions, asking many questions. Small group discussions were also organised. The pool session was held at the 25m indoor pool at the St. Andrews school. Junior and Age Group swimmers from local clubs as well as coaches and parents were present.

 

Synchro and Open water clinics gather Officials from Central America and the Caribbean in Aruba

Development News

Two clinics took place at Oranjestad University in Aruba. The first brought together 15 synchronised swimming judges (intermediate to advanced) from June 23-26, 2012 with Mexican Cristina Villacana, former FINA TSSC Member, as lecturer.

The participants upgraded their skills while actively discussing figures judging, synchro rules and officiating at events.

A swimming coaches clinic (beginner to intermediate level) was organised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, from June 12-17, 2012 with Armando Sanchez from the Mexican Swimming Federation as lecturer. 24 participants attended the course.

Swimming clinic benefits parents and coaches in Dar-es-Salam (TAN)

The first beginner-level clinic for swimming coaches was organised at Dar-es-Salam's International School of Tanganyika, in Tanzania from June 4–13, 2012 with German Gerd Nottelmann as lecturer. About 50 participants came from different parts of the country to attend the clinic which addressed, among other topics, the understanding and good practices for the basics of learning how to swim. All participants were eager to learn and took part actively in the course.

The clinic really helped both coaches and teachers improve the quality of swimming instructions and helped coaches prepare appropriate work-outs for each swimmer, according to level and age.

Excellent instruction at Swimming Judges clinic in Muscat (OMA)

34 swimming judges took part in an advanced clinic in Muscat, Oman from June 4-8, 2012 conducted by FINA TSC Member Bill Hogan from Canada.

The course took place at the Sultan Qaboos Sport Complex, which has among other sport facilities an outdoor 50m swimming pool. Mr. Taha, President of the Oman Swimming Association, officially opened the clinic and welcomed all the participants for coming and attending the clinic. Then Mr. Fahid Al-Rahisi, representative of the Oman Ministry of Sport, spoke to the attendees and mentioned how important it was for the discipline of swimming to receive such high level of support from FINA.
