The 14th FINA World Championships Doping Control preparation work steadily ongoing

SHANGHAI, China (June 17) - In accordance with the anti-doping rules of FINA, doping control will be carried out at the 14th FINA World Championships. The OC has established a Doping Control Department which, under the instruction of the FINA Doping Control Commission, carries out the doping control work at the Championships. The preparation work is steadily ongoing.

The doping control work will be carried out in strict accordance with the FINA DC Rules. During the Championships, a total of four doping control stations will be set up, at the indoor stadium, natatorium and outdoor diving pool of Shanghai Oriental Sports Center and open water venue in Jinshan District which will meet the standard by FINA.

Regulations on Coordination between Food Safety Watchdogs Stipulated by OC of the 14th FINA World Championships

The OC Food Safety Department has stipulated the Regulations on Coordination between food safety watchdogs for the 14th FINA World Championships (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations), with a view to ensuring effective cooperation between five food safety watchdogs in terms of food cultivation (breeding), production, circulation and consumption for the Championships, redressing omissions in food safety supervision and administration from the field to the fork, and enhancing efficiency in food safety control. In line with the demand put forward by Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the OC, Shanghai Municipal Agricultural Commission, Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, Shanghai Administration for Industry & Commerce, Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, and Shanghai Food and Drug Administration, in the charge of the OC Food Safety Department, are responsible for supervision over food cultivation (breeding), production, circulation and consumption for the Championships.
The Regulations highlight coordination in the following aspects:
1. Principles for spot checks on the food for the Championships;
Organizations responsible for spot checks on food ingredients and products in the food supply chain are clarified.
2. Testing items and agencies;
Four certified testing agencies have been designated by the Food Safety Department to carry out the controls in line with the same approaches and criteria.
3. Coordination between the traceability of food and inspection over purchased ingredients;
Recommended food suppliers and official hotels are required to adopt the Food Traceability System for the 14th FINA World Championships and implement the Ingredient Distribution and Circulation Form for the 14th FINA World Championships to exercise IT-based control over food traceability.
4. Labeling in food distribution for the Championship;
Food for the Championships must be packaged with special labels, and all truck doors should be sealed with TAG that bear code numbers so as to ensure the food are not intact during the food transportation.
5. Chain of custody for food production and supply;
All suppliers have to retain their food production and supply records according to relevant requirements so that in case of any emergency, documents concerned can be provided in time. In addition, all food safety watchdogs have also to keep their records on food safety supervision and administration.
6. Information on food safety;
During the Championships, the results of food safety supervision for all food suppliers and official hotels will be reported to the OC on a daily base.

Shanghai 2011 OC holds meeting with Food Safety Experts

The Organising Committee of the 14th FINA World Championships had a meeting with food safety experts on the morning of April 26, 2011. Invited guests were Chen Junshi, member of Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering; Peter Ben Embarek, Department of Food Safety of WHO’s office in China; Wu Moutian, member of Doping Control Review Board of FINA and Deputy Director General，China Anti-Doping Agency and five other food safety and doping control experts.

Shanghai 2011 - Open Water Swimming Venue (Jinshan City Beach) Report

The competition course is located within an embankment in Jinshan City Beach. The water in the embankment originates from sea water pumped from outside the dam through the floodgate. After going through natural sedimentation, the turbid sea water can turn clear. And the sea water is drawn into the embankment on a regular base.
