2nd Annual Jamaican International Synchronised Swimming Championships (JISSC)
FINA and the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica / Synchro Stars Jamaica invite all Federations to participate in the 2nd Annual Jamaican International Synchronized Swimming Championships (JISSC) to be held from 7-9 October 2010 in Kingston, Jamaica.
Diving Mexican legend Joaquin Capilla passed away
Mexico’s most medalled athlete in the Olympics, diver Joaquin Capilla died on May 8, 2010 in Mexico City, at the age of 81. Capilla, an inspiring idol for the divers and all sportsmen in the country, has been gold medallist in the 10m platform at the 1956 Games in Melbourne (AUS), silver medallist in the same event in 1952 (Helsinki, FIN), and bronze medallist twice (1948, London, 10m platform; 1956, Melbourne, 3m springboard).
After this unparalleled successes in Mexico’s sports history, Capilla, born on December 23, 1928 became very popular in his country and was even invited to participate in some movies.

After more than three years of renovation and an amount of 16.6m € spent, the so-called “Schwimmoper” has been reopened in Wuppertal. The symbolic “baptism” was named after Peter Nocke, the nine-time European champion (1974 and 1977) who also got the gold in 1975 in the 4x200m freestyle representing West Germany at the World Championships in Cali, Colombia.
Asia Swimming Federation launches new website
On April 24, 2010, the Asia Swimming Federation (AASF) announced the launch of its new website on the occasion of the Award Ceremony of the 4th Asian Open Water Championships which concluded on April 22, 2010, in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.
Mr. Husain Al-Musallam, Vice President of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) officiated the launching of the Asia Swimming Federation (AASF) website and congratulated AASF Director General, Mr. Taha Sulaiman Al-Kishry, for his hard work and contributions.

No title for Kitajima at Japan’s national championships
Japan Swim 2010 – Japan’s swimming national championships – has successfully ended on April 18, 2010, at the Tokyo-Tatsumi International Swimming Complex.
The 20-year-old Ryo Tateishi swam very well and won three titles in the men’s breaststroke events, clocking 27.66 in the 50m, 59.84 in the 100m and 2:09.21 in the 200m. Satomi Suzuki did a good job too in the women’s breaststroke events. She also won three titles, clocking 31.70, 1:07.64 and 2:24. 27.
Federica Pellegrini shines at the spring Italian championships
Riccione, April 14-18 2010 – three races and as many titles for Federica Pellegrini at the spring Italian championships. Beyond having dominated the 200m and 400m freestyle events – distances in which she scored the season’s best world performances (1:56.23 and 4:04.30 respectively) – the two-time world champion has heaved herself up in the 800m freestyle (8:27.54), event in which she had to contend with the likes of Alessia Filippi, winner of the 200m backstroke title in 2:11.97, but the latter had to stop the freestyle race due to a shoulder problem.
Singapore's divers selected for the Youth Olympic Games 2010
Singapore will be sending three divers to the inaugural Youth Olympic Games 2010 to be held in Singapore on August 14-26, 2010. They are the following:
Chloe CHAN (girls' 3m springboard)
Myra LEE (girls' 10m platform)
Timothy LEE (boys' 3m springboard)
Kitajima performs well in Japan's nationals
Japan Swim 2010 - Japan's swimming nationals - has started on April 13, 2010, at the Tokyo-Tatsumi International Swimming Complex. The six-day championships welcomed more than 430 teams, totaling 1,365 swimmers, coming from various parts of the country.

The Indoor Diving Nationals took place at the Tokyo-Tatsumi International Swimming Complex on April 4, 2010. Mai Nakagawa and Sho Sakai took gold in both the 3m springboard and 10m platform in the women’s and men’s events respectively. Sayaka Shibusawa and Mai Nakagawa reached the highest podium in the women's 3m synchro event and the same award was reserved for Sho Sakai and Yu Okamoto in the men’s 3m synchro event.
Brazil takes first place at South American Games in Medellin (COL)
In swimming, the Brazilian team collected 51 medals (27 gold, 17 silver and seven bronze), while Venezuela finished second with a tally of 24 medals (nine gold, six silver and nine bronze) and Argentina took the third place with 19 medals (three gold, six silver and ten bronze). Brazilian swimmer Fabíola Molina in the women’s category and Guilherme Guido in the men’s category won the “Señor of Sípan Trophy”. The best performance goes to Joanna Maranhão, who won five gold medals (in the 200m and 400m individual medley, 400m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 4x200m freestyle) and a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle.
