FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix
Since 2008, the Grand Prix offers the world’s best open water swimmers to compete in an annual circuit comprising distances over 10km.
In 2013, the competitions will take place on the following dates and sites: January 27, 2013 in Rosario (ARG), February 3, 2013 in Santa Fe-Coronda (ARG), February 10, 2013 in Hernandarias-Parana (ARG), April 20, 2013 in Cozumel (MEX), July 27, 2013 in Lac St. Jean (CAN), August 3, 2013 in Lake Magog (CAN), August 24, 2013 in Ohrid Lake (MKD), and September 1, 2013 in Capri-Napoli (ITA).
Italy's Martina Grimaldi and Simone Ruffini win Grand Prix race in Cozumel
Under the sun of the Mexican Caribbean, Italy clearly dominated the operations, winning four medals out of the six on offer in the pristine waters of the Cozumel island, which hosted the Mexican leg of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix for the first time on April 20.
A week after winning the 10km World Cup race in the same waters, Grimaldi took out the women's Grand Prix race, touching home in 3h21m44s2. The Olympic bronze medallist was closely followed by Angela Maurer (GER), who took second in a time of 3h21m47s9 while compatriot Rachele Bruni claimed the bronze in 3h21m55s2.

Lurz (GER) sets the pace in Cancun races
German open water swimming icon Thomas Lurz triumphed in two races in Cancun (MEX), the fourth leg of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup and third stop of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix, taking place on April 24 and 26, respectively. Brazilian World champion (25km) Ana Marcela Cunha was the best among women in the first race while Jana Pechavona from Czech Republic took out the second.
Lurz powered home to win in 1h57m16s51 in the 10km race, closely followed by current World champion Spyridon Gianniotis from Greece, who finished in 1h57m16s55. Only a photo finish decided which one of them was the winner. Lurz was declared winner by a judges' decision. The Greek was victorious in the first three stages of the Series. Lurz' best result before Cancun was a second place in Eilat (ISR). Claiming third spot was Italy's Nicola Bolzonello, who clocked 1h57m16s56.

OWS GP 2011: Sumidero Canyon Event cancelled
Please be informed that the FINA Executive has decided to cancel the Sumidero Canyon Event of the 2011 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix Series scheduled for May 7, 2011.
This decision has been reached following the recommendation of the FINA Sports Medicine Committee on the water quality in order to ensure the Health and Safety of the FINA open water swimmers.OWS GP 2011: Stoychev's formidable winning streak in Santa Fe
After an hour of the race 20 year-old Carrizo (ARG) had broken from the pack and taken a lead of 300-400m which he maintained for a further hour through the port section of the course before hard work by a pack of seven-eight swimmers brought them back into contention.
OWS GP 2010: Romiti doubles, Blaum indomitable in Capri-Napoli meet
After 18 years, an Argentine swimmer is back to put the seal on the Capri-Napoli 36 km race, sanctioned by FINA as the fifth leg of the Open Water Swimming Grand Prix. The incredible bears the name of Damien Blaum, who thanks to the distance accumulated over his direct follower, Australia’s Brendan Capell, was granted a few backstrokes and enjoyed the applause of the audience.

OWS GP 2010, Preview of Capri-Napoli race (ITA)
On June 27, 2010, the 45th Capri-Napoli (ITA) race (36km) will take place in the Mediterranean Sea, as part of the circuit of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix (fifth stage).
OWS GP 2009, Racing through Canyon Country
Famous open water swimmers Peter Stoychev (BUL) and Britta Kamrau-Corestein (GER) were winners of the fourth race of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix 2009 series. This event was held at Mexico’s beautiful Sumidero Canyon in the Grijalva River on April 18, where Stoychev imposed a new record for the 15km route with a time of 3h9m49s.
The men’s competition was a true battle of the titans, marked by vigorous duels between Stoychev, Diego Nogueira (ESP), Ivan Lopez (MEX) and Michael Dimitriev (ISR), as each swimmer alternated in the lead position.Mexico prepares for FINA OWS GP in Sumidero Canyon
The promotion of open water swimming in Mexico is very important and in 2009 two international FINA events will be held in the country: a leg of the Open Water Swimming Grand Prix will take place at the Sumidero Canyon on April 18, and a stage of the Marathon Swimming World Cup will be held in Cancun on September 12.
The first open water international competition in Mexico for 2009 is the fourth date of the Grand Prix with a distance of 15km, which will double as the XX Sumidero Canyon Marathon.
