Russia is proud and excited to host the 2015 FINA World Championships and the 2015 FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan. This international event will promote aquatic sports in the city and the Republic in general, along with promoting the national goal of healthy life-styles and a legacy of youth oriented sports activities for the future of the country.

Kazan has now developed the most advanced sporting infrastructure in all of Russia and has one of the most advanced Aquatic facilities in the world. These facilities are already built for the 2013 Summer Universiade, providing sustainable economic impact for decades to come and for local and international events.

Finally, hosting the World Championships will create the opportunity to elevate the sport to higher levels of prominence within Russia and a chance to produce a new group of international champions in the traditions of the many great Russian swimmers of the past.

FINA looks ahead at the upcoming edition of the Swimming World Cup

FINA met with organisers of the annual Series of the FINA Swimming World Cup on August 2 to present the 2014 season reports and provide comprehensive feedback which included key broadcasting figures and TV revenue indication. The reports have been compiled by FINA long-term partner IEC.

Future SWC organisers gathered for the meeting in Kazan, where the FINA World Championships are currently underway.

Reports indicate that the 2014 SWC saw six World Records broken. The total broadcast hours was around 767,5K and 112 territories were covered (excluding places covered by the FINA Tv). This approximately represents 373 million households.

Kazan celebrates traditional Tatar holiday – Sabantuy

As the Republic of Tatarstan celebrated today (August 1) the traditional holiday Sabantuy, the Kazan authorities invited all participants to the 16th FINA World Championships to attend an entertaining cultural and musical event located in the Privolzhskiy district.

Sabantuy is one of the oldest and most important celebrations for the people of Tatarstan. It celebrates and honours sport, labour, agility and strength.

The participants had the opportunity to discover beautiful costumes, traditional songs and dances as well as take part in the rich cultural programme and sports contests which were held in a festive atmosphere.

European Council Workgroup meets in Kazan

On 29 July 2015 the Legal Advisory Group to the Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention visited Kazan (RUS) upon the invitation of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation. The visit was organised to assist the recommendation of the Monitoring Group regarding information shared between governmental agencies and anti-doping authorities with a view to further reduce doping substances in sport.

The visit took place in the context of the FINA World Championship 2015, allowing to observe the mechanism introduced by the Russian government in real time during a major sport event.

The authorities of the Russian Federation and FINA demonstrated relevant experience that will consist of the recommendation provided by the Monitoring Group to the Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention (expected to be adopted in November 2015).

Kazan welcomes first athletes for FINA Masters

Participants to the 16th FINA Masters World Championships have started to arrive in Kazan on Thursday July 30. Delegations and athletes from South Africa, the USA and Russia are settling in the capital city of Tatarstan. The eldest of them is 74 years old.

The 16th FINA World Masters Championships will be held from August 5-16. About 3,000 athletes representing 91 nations are expected to arrive. The Masters athletes will be accommodated in the Athletes’ Village.

The Aquatic show in Kazan (RUS) has started!

The 16th FINA World Championships are officially open in the city of Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia)! At the end of a memorable and spectacular Opening Ceremony, where the presence of water was omnipresent, the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin, declared the event open and wished the best luck to all participating teams. FINA’s major showcase started in the best possible way, after a two hour and a half show, highlighted by the beautiful choreographies on the generic theme “Pilgrim”.

Throughout a series of scenes, the Organisers of the Championships told the story of a fundamental relation, the one of human being with Earth’s natural element, the water. Also emphasising Russian and Tatar traditions, the Opening Ceremony displayed an outstanding variety of scenarios and successfully connected them with FINA’s six aquatic disciplines: swimming, pool and high diving, synchronised swimming, water polo and open water swimming. Presenting also awarded singers and performers on stage, the “pilgrimage” took the spectators and participants in the Championships to a long journey of fantasy and artistic performances. At the end, the importance of Sport remained at the heart of the show, but the preservation of water was also one of the strong messages of this Opening Ceremony.

Top authorities welcome FINA Family in Kazan

One day before the Opening Ceremony of the 16th FINA World Championships, gathering a new record of over 180 nations in Kazan (RUS), the FINA Family lived an intense day in the capital of Tatarstan and was officially welcomed by the top national and local authorities.

At the start of the FINA Extraordinary Congress that validated the new changes in the FINA Constitution and where delegates from 139 Member Federations demonstrated the unity of Aquatics, the FINA national representatives received the prestigious visit of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov, the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vitaly Mutko, and by the ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

Athletes reach Kazan for FINA World Championships as training sessions officially kick-off

Kazan International Airport continues to welcome athletes coming to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan Republic, Russia, for the 16th FINA World Championships which will feature competitions in six different disciplines; swimming, synchronised swimming, diving, high diving, water polo and open water swimming.

Dozens of athletes from all parts of the world arrive every day in the host city of the upcoming mega aquatics event, to take place from July 24 - August 9, 2015.

Kazan will welcome approximately 2,500 athletes coming from 186 nations for this edition of the event. The local organisers and volunteers warmly meet and greet all of them at the airport.

Venues almost ready in Kazan!

With six days to go for the start of the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan (RUS), the look of the competition venues is very close to the one that will be enjoyed by the thousands of spectators on site and billions of TV viewers around the globe.

On this Saturday July 18, the FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione and the FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu paid a visit to the venues and praised the excellence of the facilities put in place for FINA’s major event.

10 Day countdown to Kazan starts today!

With only 10 days to go to the 16th FINA World Championships to be held in Kazan, Russia, FINA is pleased to announce that more than 2,500 athletes from 186 countries (a new record) are expected to take part in one of FINA six disciplines; swimming, synchronised swimming, diving, high diving, water polo and open water swimming.

Kazan football stadium is being temporarily transformed into an aquatics venue - with two Olympic-size swimming pools being built on the pitch.

The Kazan 2015 Organising Committee released its mobile application for iOS and Android devices especially designed for the upcoming 16th FINA World Championships to take place from July 24-August 9, 2015.

The application will provide instant useful information to the users such as the competition schedule, venues information, public transport routes and nearest stops and non-sport activities to do in the surroundings.

The users will be able to keep up with the results and actions of the day, read the latest news and have a look at the photo and video feeds in one click.
