Russia is proud and excited to host the 2015 FINA World
Championships and the 2015 FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan. This international event will promote aquatic sports
in the city and the Republic in general, along with promoting the national
goal of healthy life-styles and a legacy of youth oriented
sports activities for the future of the country.
Kazan has now developed the most advanced sporting infrastructure in all of
Russia and has one of the most advanced Aquatic facilities in the world. These facilities are
already built for the 2013 Summer Universiade, providing sustainable economic
impact for decades to come and for local and international events.
Finally, hosting the World Championships will create the opportunity to
elevate the sport to higher levels of prominence within Russia and a chance
to produce a new group of international champions in the traditions of the
many great Russian swimmers of the past.

FINA meets Russia’s Minister of Sport
Within the frame of the SportAccord convention in Sochi (RUS), the FINA authorities have met on April 21 the Minister of Sport from Russia, Mr. Vitaly Mutko. The FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione and FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu had the opportunity to discuss the preparation of the 16th FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships this summer in Kazan (RUS).
During the meeting, Mr. Mutko reaffirmed once more the total support and engagement of the Russian highest authorities to the organisation of FINA’s major event. The Russian Minister of Sport ensured that everything in Kazan will be ready to host a great Aquatic Festival and that optimal conditions are waiting the Aquatic stars from the five continents.
“We had a very fruitful meeting with Mr. Mutko and we are very confident on a memorable FINA World Championships in Kazan. The involvement of the Russian authorities in this organisation is a guarantee of success and we thank Russia, the Republic of Tatarstan and the city of Kazan for their enthusiasm and help in preparing these two competitions”, considered the FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.
The FINA World Championships will take place from July 24-August 9, while the FINA World Masters Championships are scheduled from August 5-16.
Preparation works start at Kazan Arena Stadium for 2015 World Championships
Preparatory works for the 16th FINA World Championships 2015 are underway at the Kazan Arena Stadium. For the first time in the history of football stadiums and FINA World Championships, the competitions will be staged on the football field with two temporary pools, one for competitions (50x25x3m) and one for practices (50x25x2m).
The stadium is going to host swimming and synchronised swimming events. Both temporary pools will be installed on the main venue with the help of Myrtha Pools, the Official FINA Partner, and in compliance with the FINA requirements. The seating capacity will reach approximately 11,000.
Athletes Village gets ready for Aquatics festival
Preservation of the Universiade Village's legacy in the lead-up to the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia was on the agenda of the meeting hosted by the campus student council on February 10, 2015.
Present at the meeting were representatives of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University and Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. Deputy Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects and Universiade Village Mayor, Farid Abdulganiev, also attended the event and addressed the audience with a short speech.
FINA Masters Committee assesses progress in build-up to World Championships
The FINA Masters Committee's inspection visit took place on February 5-7, 2015. The delegation led by FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu arrived in the capital of Tatarstan to check the host city's preparation for this summer's World Masters Championships. Among the delegates were Masters Committee chairman Edward Evelly, Masters Committee vice-chairman Mel Goldstein and FINA Bureau liaison Dr. Mohamed Diop.
Day 1 of the visit opened with a meeting attended by Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Azat Kadyrov, and heads of the functional areas involved in the preparation for the World Masters Championships. During the meeting, tournament directors responsible for aquatic disciplines were introduced for the first time to the FINA Masters Committee members.
Rossiya Segodnya to be host national news agency for Kazan 2015
Rossiya Segodnya will become the key provider of sports coverage for the upcoming 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan.
The Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency has been granted the status of a host national news agency and photo pool for the FINA World Championships in Kazan. For the first time in the history of Soviet and Russian swimming, a Russian information agency will act as the major source of up-to-the-minute news and photo content for this prestigious international sporting event.
Kazan 2015 unveils medals!
Medals for the 16th FINA World Championships and 16th FINA World Masters Championships were unveiled on February 4 during the press conference that took place at the Aquatics Palace in Kazan. Journalists were given the opportunity to take a look at how victory ceremonies will be held during this summer's major aquatics events.
Present at the press conference were Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects Azat Kadyrov, Member of the Heraldic Council under the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilnur Minullin and Art Director of the Paradox Advertising Studio Ilshat Bayburin.
Russian Minister of Sport meets FINA Executive Director in Moscow
On Wednesday January 21, 2015, Russia's Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko and FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu, had a meeting in Moscow, Russia.
In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the progress made by the host city, Kazan, in the build-up to the 16th FINA World Championships taking place from July 24 to August 9, 2015 and the FINA World Masters Championships, scheduled from August 5-16, 2015.
200 days to go to Kazan 2015!
200 days are left to go to the 16th FINA World Championships 2015 in Kazan, Russia. To mark this occasion, the crew of the International Space Station (ISS) offered a congratulatory message to all aquatic sports fans. As previously reported, the symbol of the 16th FINA World Championships is currently aboard the ISS. It was launched into space on September 26, 2014.
The symbol of the 16th FINA World Championships is a special barrel filled with water from the Kazanka River where the open water swimming and high diving tournaments will take place. Together with the Soyuz TMA-14M crew, the barrel travelled to the International Space Station aboard the space capsule.
Water from Kazan travels to ISS
Everyone expects that the 16th FINA World Championships, to be held in Kazan (RUS) will be an enormous success on Earth, but the organisers of the competition want to reach ever higher. On September 26, 2014 the Soyuz TMA-14M manned spacecraft was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome carrying a symbol of the FINA major event - a special barrel filled with water from the Kazanka River – and travelled to the International Space Station (ISS).
During the press conference that took place shortly before the lift-off, Tatarstan's Minister of Sport Vladimir Leonov extended gratitude to the Federal Space Agency and the expedition crew members for contributing to the development of sports, and especially aquatic sports.
300-day countdown has started
On the 300 days to go to the 16th FINA World Championships, a new countdown clock ticking down the time left to the start of next summer's international aquatics event is now available. The clock was opened on September 27 in Bauman Street, near the iconic Arabian style street clock. The ceremony was attended by Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, Vladimir Leonov.
Special guests at the event were Merited Master of Sport, three-time Olympic synchronised swimming champion, three-time world champion, eight-time European champion, multiple winner of world and European cups, TV presenter and actress Maria Kiseleva and three-time Olympic synchronised swimming champion, fifteen-time world champion and seven-time European champion Svetlana Romashina, as well as lead singer of the Kazan pop band Bolshoy Kush Rustem Chanyshev. They all were revealed as ambassadors for the upcoming FINA World Championships. Ilsur Metshin hosted the ceremony and handed credentials and ambassador scarves.
