Organised in even years, the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) gather the world's fastest swimmers for a five-day, top-level showdown in 25-metre pool.
This year, about 900 swimmers coming from all continents will compete in the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), held in Doha (QAT) from December 3-7, 2014.
46 events (34 individual and 12 relays) are featured on the competition programme, for a total 138 medals.
Volunteers get ready for 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m)
Volunteers for next month’s 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Dubai were told last November 27, 2010, they will be a key part of the event’s success.
Many of the 400 who have signed up to be part of the first-ever world swimming championships in the Middle East attended an induction day at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex, the spectacular, new venue that will be the scene of five days of top-class racing.

At 22, he is the current WR holder in the 50m breaststroke (25.25) and 100m breaststroke (55.61) - he was also respectively third and second in those events in Manchester 2008. In long course, he got the gold in the 50m at the 2009 Worlds in Rome. Over the last years, he is one of the most “valuable” athletes in the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup series.
Kenya’s Jason Dunford aims to make history in Dubai
The 23 year-old has already made history once this year by securing Kenya’s first swimming medal at a Commonwealth Games, finishing at the head of a world-class field including Australia’s Geoff Huegill and Roland Schoeman of South Africa in the 50m butterfly in New Delhi.
FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), 1993-2008 - A story of success
Given the development of Swimming, which progressed from one recognised season into two different periods of the year – typically, for the North Hemisphere, comprising the long course (50m-pool) season in Spring/Summer, and the short course (25m-pool) during Autumn/Winter -, FINA formally approved the first short course world records in 1991, opening the door to the organisation of the first FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in 1993.The first edition took place in Palma de Mallorca (ESP), and since then nine editions took place, in Rio de Janeiro (BRA, 1995), Gothenburg (SWE, 1997), Hong Kong (HKG, 1999), Athens (GRE, 2000), Moscow (RUS, 2002), Indianapolis (USA, 2004), Shanghai (CHN, 2006), and Manchester (GBR, 2008). The 10th edition will be held in Dubai (UAE), from December 15-19, 2010, while the 11th edition is already scheduled for Istanbul (TUR), in December 2012.

Organisers present FINA President with ceremonial first ticket for 10th FINA World Swimming Championships
Organisers for December’s 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Dubai have presented FINA President Dr Julio C. Maglione with the ceremonial first ticket.
Dr Maglione received the ticket to mark the occasion of tickets going on sale for the December 15 – 19 Championships whilst visiting the Dubai 2010 stand at the FINA World Aquatics Convention in Uruguay.
100 days before FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) and 100 teams already on the starting blocks
September 5, 2010, Dubai – With 100 days to go before the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) there are already 100 teams from all over the world on the starting blocks and ready for action.
From the swimming super powers of the USA and Australia through to the Republic of Palau, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, the world will be descending on Dubai for five days of world-class, high-octane racing from 15-19 December.

The Organising Committee for Dubai 2010 was joined by senior FINA executives for the launch of the Official Mascot for the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) to be held in Dubai from December 15-19, 2010.
Spectacular Dubai venue on track to welcome the world
Dubai is well on course to host the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m). That’s according to the FINA delegation that visited the venue set to host what will be the largest swimming event in the region from December 15–19.
FINA President, Dr. Julio C. Maglione, FINA Honorary Secretary Paolo Barelli and FINA Executive Director, Cornel Marculescu, met recently with the Local Organising Committee of the Championships and were given a tour of the new Dubai Sports Complex. Their visit to Dubai coincided with the SportAccord International Convention (a five-day gathering of 1500 leading representatives from international sport).
