Swimming clinic trains Coaches in Ghana
The beginner-level course welcomed 43 participants and was taught by expert Joshua Neuloh from Germany. The following topics were addressed: teaching approaches, technical aspects of freestyle swimming, training control methods, role of the coach and training principles.
Swimming Coaches get certified in Guayaquil (ECU)
As part of the FINA Swimming Coaches Certification Programme, a course (Level 2) was held in Guayaquil (Ecuador) from November 1-3, 2011. In all, 81 participants (all local except eleven, who came from Colombia and Peru) took part in the course led by swimming expert Harry N. Canales from Hawaii (USA).
Water polo Referees attend school in Hamburg (GER)
23 water polo referees from eight countries (Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Sweden and Ukraine) took part in a school conducted by FINA TWPC Member Niculae Firoiu in Hamburg, Germany from October 28-30, 2011.
The course programme included among others, the following topics: Responsibilities of the Referee, Application of FINA WP Rules, Centre Forward/Centre Back play, Yellow/red card, Pressing, 5 Metre shot, Contra Foul, Timeout, etc. An examination took place at the end of the three-day clinic. Firoiu praised the level of participants which was "theoretically very high."
Synchro Judge school held in Budapest (HUN)
A successful school for aspiring synchronised swimming judges was held in Budapest, Hungary from October 25-30, 2011. In all, 36 local and nine foreign participants attended the course which was given by FINA Technical Synchronised Swimming Committee Member Jennifer Gray from Great Britain.
Swimming Officials clinic as a refresher prior Dubai World Cup
A FINA Swimming Officials Development clinic was organised in Dubai (UAE) from October 4-5, 2011 prior the inaugural leg of the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup to kick off on October 7. FINA Technical Swimming Committee Bill Hogan from Canada was onsite to instruct no less than 40 local swimming judges, officials and referees, whose level ranked intermediate to advanced.
Half of the attendees would officiate at the Dubai World Cup later the same week. On day 1, topics such as Competitive Strokes, Relays, Officials’ Decision Making, The Race, Disqualifications and Protests were discussed. On day 2, the participants learned about Duties of Officials and studied a Presentation of the FINA Stroke Video. At the end of the day, an examination took place.
Water Polo Referees attend school in Loughborough (GBR)
British Swimming hosted a FINA Water Polo School for Referees at SportPark Loughborough University from September 30th to October 2nd, 2011. Gianni Lonzi (ITA) and Niculae Firoiu (GER), respectively Chairman and Member of the FINA Technical Water Polo Committee, shared their knowledge and expertise with 19 referees (14 were local, three from Portugal, one from Japan and one from Ireland). Some coaches and delegates attended as well.
"During the three days we had the opportunity to discuss about all the aspects of the right application of the FINA rules and pointed out the importance of the Center/Centerback play and also the specific of simulations, provocations and pressing during the game," Gianni Lonzi explained.
Enhancing Swimming Officials' expertise in Latin America
The Federacion Panamena de Natacion organised a clinic for Swimming Judges and Officials (Beginner and Intermediate levels) from September 26th to October 1st in the capital city of Panama. In all, 18 local and six foreign participants (coming from El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Brazil, Chile and Puerto Rico) attended the course led by expert Jose Ismael Gonzalez from Guatemala.
Promising Swimming Coaches clinic held in Kingston (VIN)
A clinic for Swimming Coaches (beginner level) was held in Kingston, St. Vincent and the Grenadines from September 19-24, 2011 attended by eight coaches and 12 swimmers who were on-hand for practical sessions. American expert Rick Powers praised the participants who were "highly motivated and did extremely well."
45 Nepalese Coaches enjoy Swimming clinic
The Nepal Swimming Association organised a Swimming Coaches clinic (intermediate level) in Kathmandu, Nepal from September 18-22, 2011. 45 enthusiastic participants took part in the course conducted by S. Pradeep Kumar, India's National Coach and Head Coach of BAC, Bangalore. The clinic was given in both English and Hindi.
