Inaugural Oceania development workshop a great success
Representatives from all member federations of the Oceania Swimming Association, plus associate members Hawaii and New Caledonia, completed an intensive three-day development workshop in Nadi, Fiji last week.
Setting the scene on Day 1 was OSA Executive Board Member and long time swimming coach and administrator, Bill Sakovich, who addressed delegates on "Issues and Challenges facing Aquatics Development in Oceania".
Stepping stone for development of Aquatics in Oceania
The Oceania Swimming Association will organise its first ever Regional Aquatics Development Workshop at the Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi, Fiji from March 4-6, 2012.
FINA, along with the Olympic Solidarity, Asian Swimming Federation, Oceania Swimming Association and USA Swimming, united their vision to provide the member nations of the Oceania Swimming Association with the best educational tools to foster the development of Aquatics in the region. The objectives of the three-day workshop are the following:

Building Swimming Officials expertise in Tunisia
The first FINA Swimming Officials School of the 2012 season was hosted by the Tunisian Swimming Federation in Tunis (TUN) on February 11-12 at the Golden Tulip El Mechtel Hotel. The School had a total of 30 participants with one coming from outside Tunisia.
The lecturers were Søren Korbo, FINA TSC Honorary Secretary and Olugbenga Lawal, FINA TSC Member. The School was opened by the newly elected President of the Tunisian Swimming Federation, Mr. Hedi Belhassen. The School was very well organised by the host Federation.
FINA Development School for Diving Judges is held in Colombo (SRI)
The first FINA Diving Development School of 2012, a basic development course for those having no prior judging experience in diving, took place at the Otters Aquatic Club in Colombo, Sri Lanka from January 29-30.
Happily, in this case, among the 17 eager participants, most were former divers with knowledge of diving techniques and codes. FINA TDC Member Frans van de Konijnenburg (NED) taught various aspects of judging this spectacular discipline: Judge's Responsibilities, Competition Format and Procedure, The Dive, Judging Synchronised Diving, Briefing and De-briefing at competitions, Duties of the Referee, etc.
FINA schools programme kicks off in Tunis (TUN)
The first school of 2012 was organised in the Tunisian capital for water polo officials from January 6-8. 33 water polo referees coming from Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt attend the course conducted by FINA TWPC Chairman Gianni Lonzi from Italy.
Certification course for Swimming Coaches is a success in St. Lucia
A Technical Course for Swimming Coaches (Level 1) took place in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia, from January 6-8, 2012 with about 50 enthusiastic participants. American expert John Leonard was onsite to share with the coaches his valuable knowledge.
Synchro Coaches enjoy first clinic of the year in Colombo (SRI)
The FINA Development Programme for Coaches and Officials kicks off 2012 with its first clinic for synchronised swimming coaches in Asia. It is aimed at building solid knowledge and legacy thanks to technical training in countries that are developing FINA sports.
16 beginner coaches from Sri Lanka took part in a synchro clinic at Colombo's Otter Aquatic Club from January 5-8. Japanese Miwako Homma, FINA TSSC Member, shared her valuable expertise to introduce the basic technical elements of synchronised swimming to the aspiring coaches. Both theory and pool sessions were organised during the four-day course.
Swimming Coaches and Officials clinic held in Papeete (TAH)
A clinic for Swimming Coaches and Officials (intermediate level) was organised in Papeete, Tahiti, from December 8-20, 2011 attended enthusiastically by 12 coaches and 25 officials. Expert Jean-Louis Morin from the Fédération Française de Natation was onsite to share his experience and knowledge. Following the course, the participants tested their skills during the short-course Polynesian Championships.
