FINA conducted 2052 tests in 2004, 1060 of these were completed out-of-competition.

Out of competition testing (OOCT)

The FINA Unannounced Out-of-Competition Testing Programme 2004 included 603 swimmers from 53 nationalities making a total of 1060 tests. This total includes 34 EPO tests.
FINA, in collaboration with the World Anti-Doping Agency, also conducted 212 additional out-of-competition tests.

In competition testing (INCOMP)

588 swimmers from 77 nationalities were tested in competition with the occasion of the 2004 FINA Competitions and the Olympic Games Athens 2004 making a total of 992 test.
